The Kilimanjaro 8 days Lemosho route with crater is a very special itinerary designed for those wishing to make the ascent to the summit in the daylight hours as well as with sun rise. You can spend a night in Kibo crater, trek to the top of the inner Reusch crater and cross the Shira Plateau. It takes us through magnificent scenery with views of the Great Rift Valley, Mt Meru and Longido. Some wildlife can be seen.

“Off the beaten path” trips. Individuals seeking to experience more of the local life in Tanzania can spend the day with local villagers at the base of Kilimanjaro. Drive to the village, and then experience life in the village while on a scenic walk. After lunch, you have the option to visit waterfalls or a community initiated project and join villagers on their daily activity. Evening drive back and overnight on base hotel.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Tanzania and transfer to the hotel

Arrival in Tanzania and transfer to a hotel for a night stay. Upon your Arrival in Tanzania via Kilimanjaro International airport (JRO), Kilimanjaro Brothers staff will pick you up and transfer you to Moshi town where you will spend the first night at Park View Inn, for those who will arrive through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Kenya, we will pick you up and get transferred by Shuttle bus to Moshi.

Day 2Drive to Londorossi Park Gate

Drive to Londorossi Park Gate (2,385m or 7825 ft) and climbing to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,700 meters or 8858 ft)

Hiking hours: 5-6 hours.
Distance: 8 Km or 5 miles.

Day 3Climbing from Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1

Climbing from Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1 (3,500 m or 11483 feet)

Hiking hours: 3-4 hours.
Distance: 6 Km or 6 miles.

Day 4 Climbing from Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2

Climbing from Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2 (3,840 meters or 12,598 feet)

Hiking hours: 5-6 hours.
Distance: 8 Km or 5 miles.

Day 5Climbing from Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp

Climbing from Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp (3,950 meters or 12959 feet)

Hiking hours: 8-9 hours.
Distance: 8 Km or 5 miles.

Day 6Climbing from Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley Camp

Climbing from Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley Camp (3,995 meters 13,106 feet)

Hiking hours: 4-5 hours.
Distance: 5 Km or 3 miles.

Day 7Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp

Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp (4,550 meters or 14928 feet)

Hiking hours: 4-5 hours.
Distance: 4 Km or 2 miles.

Day 8Barafu Camp Climbing to Crater Camp

Barafu Camp (4,550 meters or 14928 feet) to Climbing to Crater camp (5,715m/18,750ft)

Due to the steep ascent at high altitude, this is the most challenging day of the ascent. Leave Barafu Camp early in the morning to begin your hike to the top of Kibo Crater. It is important to remember to snack during the ascent to keep up your energy. You will likely lose your appetite during the hike and begin to feel new effects of altitude sickness.

After ascending Kibo’s wall, hike to Crater Camp, the highest camp on Kilimanjaro. The camp is located inside Kilimanjaro Kibo crater and offers stunning views of the surrounding glaciers. Some climbers choose to summit in the afternoon instead of the following morning.

Day 9Crater Camp to Summit to Millenia Camp

Crater Camp (5,715m or 18,750ft) to Summit (5,895m or 19,340ft) to Millenia Camp (3,802m or 12,530ft)

At dawn, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The hike to the summit is slow, taking up to two hours to gain 180 meters. Reach Uhuru around 8am and take photos at the roof of Africa. Descend to Barafu Camp where you’ll eat lunch. At 1pm continue to Millenia Camp, your final camp on Kilimanjaro.

Day 10Millenia to Mweka Gate

Descend to Mweka Gate (4,600) from Mweka camp

Hiking hours: 5-6 hours.
Distance: 8 Km or 4 miles to Mweka gate.
Transfer to at Park View Inn for certificate and summit party ceremony.

Day 11Transfer to Airport

Transfer to airport.

Total distance covered is: 70 Km or 42 miles.
End of climb.
