This is the best and longest route in Mount Kilimanjaro as it allows more time for acclimatization time, more spectacular scenery. This route has been an all round favorite and despite becoming busy once it joins the Machame route at Lava Tower, the ascent profile, scenic variation and ascent via Stella Point make this a superlative choice for anyone looking to successfully hike Kilimanjaro.

Approximately 42 miles (70km) from gate Lemosho interance gate to Mwika descending gate, Kilimanjaro’s Lemosho Route is the path less traveled to the highest peak in Africa, offering an unforgettable experience through fascinating terrain and fabulous scenery.

Lemosho

The wilderness trail, considered by many to be Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful, has been thoughtfully designed to provide more acclimatization time by incorporating longer distances, longer times on the mountain and shorter elevation gains, resulting in a high summit success rate.

Starting at Lemosho, the journey traverses the most spectacular parts of the mountain including the Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, and Barranco Valley. Enjoy the climb through magnificent forests and moorland, and emerge into high-alpine deserts with splendid views all the way up to the summit via Stella Point. Descent is via the Mweka Route.

Recommended for both physically fit people with some hiking experience and beginners , the trip is fully supported with a shower tent, spacious walk-in guest tents, bed cots, and pillows as well as a mess tent with lightweight tables and chairs, plates and cutlery.

Our trips also include a toilet tent in camp and, most importantly, knowledgeable professional guides who go through bi-annual training and are wilderness first responder trained. Our logistics team, at our base, monitors your trip from start to finish.

Lemosho route Duration:

6,7,8 and 9 days

Most of people choose an 8 days Lemosho route The 8 day ascent to the roof of Africa. Starting at Lemosho on the Western side and traversing across the most spectacular parts of the mountain. It joins the Machame route above Shira camp on day 4 and then from Barafu camp ascends to the summit via Stella Point. Descent is via the Mweka route.

Lemosho Route Distance & successful rate

The Lemosho route has 97% summit success rate. It covers a distance of aproximately 70km or 42 miles over 8 days itinerary and has the greatest elevation gain of all trails which give you more time to adjust an altitude which gives you the highest chance to successful reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Advantages:

  • Plenty of time for acclimatization.

Disadvantages:

  • High cost.
  • Higher difficulty level.
  • Meets the Machame and Shira trail, hence very crowded on the later days.
