The Kilimanjaro Machame route is the most popular path at Kilimanjaro National Park. It approaches from the southwest and descends through Mweka. It is the route of choice for many people because it provides impressive views and a variety of habitats. Also known as the Whiskey route, given its reputation for being a tough climb, with steeper trails, for longer distances, while sleeping in supplied tents at designated campsites and eat meals either outdoors or inside a large dinning tent.
Those people climbing mount Kilimanjaro through Machame route start from Machame gate to Machame camp and proceed to Shira camp, lava tower camp, Barranco camp, Karanga valley camp, Barafu camp, Uhuru peak and descending through Millennium camp, Mweka camp and thereafter to Mweka gate.

There is no technical climb when climbing Mount Kilimanjaro using Machame route. Though it’s demerits such as having the higher level of difficulty when climbing and the most popular camping route thus making it more crowded .
On the other hand Machame route is very scenic with varied scenery, relatively low cost and a higher success rate than Marangu route.
